Cabasse is a high-end French audio manufacturer with a history dating back to 1950. As part of its 75th anniversary celebrations, the company has introduced a new wireless active speaker system, the La Sphere Evo, that looks — and promises to sound — out of this world.

And yes, it comes with an equally stratospheric price tag to match.

The La Sphere Evo wireless speaker system costs $135,000/pair, which is actually substantially more affordable than the company’s existing La Sphere.

A Death Star speaker system

Cabasse’s La Sphere Evo speakers resemble miniature Death Stars, but that’s not exactly off brand for the French speaker maker. It introduced the original La Sphere loudspeakers in 2006 and now has an entire lineup of spherically shaped speakers.

Like the original La Sphere loudspeakers, the all-new Evos are built around the company’s tri-coaxial (TCA) driver system, which features a central tweeter surrounded by a pair of midrange drivers and a woofer.

And, like their predecessors, the La Sphere Evo isn’t meant to blend into the home as each loudspeaker is essentially a sculpture.

More compact, still active

The new La Sphere Evo is designed as a more compact, lighter and more modern version of the Cabasse’s original La Sphere. Both speakers stand roughly 4.5 feet tall, but while each La Sphere weighs 216 pounds, each Evo weighs just over 130 pounds.

Aside from size, the most significant difference from the original La Sphere is that the Evo is a self-contained, active wireless speaker system. While the originals required external components (separate amps, preamps, and streamers), the Evo speakers house all their amplification, DACs, and streamers in their base — which is just 7 cm thick.

This means that the Evo promises to be a much more plug-and-play-ready system.

Unmatched stereo power

In the traditional sense, Cabasse’s La Sphere Evo functions similarly to other modern-day active wireless speaker systems.

It’s an active wireless stereo system that’s incredibly versatile, thanks to its built-in wireless streaming capabilities and a wealth of physical connections, including an HDMI eARC input for the most over-the-top TV speakers you’ve ever seen.

But, naturally, the La Sphere Evo promises to deliver a bigger, better sound. Each speaker features four amplifiers — one to power each driver — and is capable of outputting an incredible 10,200 watts of power. And together, they’re able to achieve an incredibly full-range sound (thanks to a 14 Hz – 27,000 Hz frequency range).

That’s basically like having a full-on concert playing in your home.

Price and availability

Cabasse’s La Sphere Evo costs more than most homes and fancy sports cars. The system costs $135,000. (For context, Cabasse’s larger La Sphere system costs $176,000.)

The La Sphere Evo wireless speaker system comes in a single matte black finish with mirror-polished chrome stands.

They’re expected to be available in Q3 of this year.
