Let’s get one thing out of the way: Bose didn’t technically release a new pair of wireless earbuds this week.

But in a surprising move, it did collaborate with Skullcandy on its latest pair, the Skullcandy Method 360 ANC.

While Bose’s wireless earbuds tend to be pretty pricey, these new collaborative earbuds are a chance to get Bose’s signature sound — and fit — for a significantly lower price. In fact, they may yet represent the best value in wireless audio.

Bose’s signature sound

The Skullcandy Method 360 ANC are wireless earbuds with active noise cancellation that leverage Bose’s audio-tuning technology — called Sound By Bose.

This means that, while you shouldn’t expect them to sound quite as good as Bose’s more expensive offerings, the QuietComfort Earbuds ($179) or QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds ($299), they should sound better than any of Skullcandy’s previous offerings.

According to the press release, the Method 360 ANC delivers “Skullcandy’s most advanced audio experience to date.”

Also, Skullcandy’s new earbuds should fit like Bose’s QuietComfort line, as they come with similar silicone ear tips (available in multiple sizes). For those wondering about the active noise cancellation, that’s all done by Skullcandy — not Bose.

An unlikely partnership

The partnership between Bose and Skullcandy is a surprise simply because of how different the brands (and their audiences) are. While Bose is known for premium headphones and wireless earbuds with best-in-class active noise cancellation, Skullcandy is known for its significantly more affordable alternatives.

Of course, this collaboration isn’t unprecedented — Bose has a history of bringing its technologies to other companies’ more affordable products.

Just last year, Bose brought its audio-tuning technology in Motorola’s Moto Buds+ wireless earbuds. It also partnered with Amazon in 2020, bringing its “active noise reduction (ANR)” technology to the first Echo Buds.

Other cool features

The Skullcandy Method 360 ANC have several other premium features that you might not expect in a pair of budget-friendly wireless earbuds.

They support active noise cancellation and transparency modes, Bluetooth multipoint, Low Latency Audio, wear detection (so they automatically start playing when you put them in your ears), and even allow you to customize the EQ via the brand’s companion app.

Also, their charging case has a really unique design. Instead of the classic clamshell, it has a rectangular design that slides open and shut. And on one end it features a carabiner-style keyring, so you can easily attach it to a belt loop or strap.

The battery life promises to be pretty good, too. Each earbud reportedly gets 11 hours of runtime with ANC off or 9 hours with ANC on. The charging case adds up to 40 hours of juice, which amounts to fully recharging each earbud about twice over.

Price and availability

The Skullcandy Method 360 ANC is available now for an “introductory price” of $100. Although the brand hasn’t specified when, that price will eventually rise to $130.

The wireless earbuds are available in five different color options: black, bone (white), primer (gold), plasma (red), and leopard print.
