In 2024, as part of its 100th anniversary celebrations, Beyerdynamic revived and modernized one of its most popular closed-back headphones: the DT 770 Pro.

The DT 770 Pro “X” was initially released as a limited-edition run, but, “due to high demand,” the German hi-fi giant is making them a permanent fixture in its Pro series headphone lineup.

Dating back to 1985

The Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro are closed-back dynamic headphones that were originally released in 1985. At the time, they were known for their superb build quality and comfort, but, more importantly, for delivering an extremely accurate and balanced sound.

The headphones are mainly used by music professionals, such as sound engineers, producers, and artists. The brand touts them as being used by various artists, including Paul McCartney, Sting, Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift.

Modern versatility

The DT 770 Pro X have been modernized to accommodate “the increasing digitalization of audio production,” according to the brand.

They are equipped with Beyerdynamic’s new Stellar.45 driver system — the same drivers featured in its higher-end DT 700 Pro X ($270) — which promises to play high-resolution audio across a wide frequency range.

And thanks to a relatively low impedance, at 48 ohms, the headphones are easy to drive; you take them from the studio and plug them directly into your laptop or smartphone.
