In recent years, Bang & Olufsen and Saint Laurent have collaborated several times.

The revered Danish hi-fi company and luxury French fashion brand have partnered on special edition versions of B&O’s headphones and wireless speakers.

Now, the two legendary brands have collaborated on their most ambitious project yet: breathing new life into a classic turntable.

Originally released in 1972

The Bang & Olufsen Beogram 4000c (Saint Laurent Rive Droite Edition) is a restored and reimagined version of B&O’s original Beogram 4000 belt-drive turntable, which was originally released in 1972 and then discontinued in 1974.

The original Beogram 4000 was a standout for several reasons. It was a no-compromise audiophile turntable with a stunning mid-century design. But it was also the first turntable to feature B&O’s tangential tonearm, which stayed perfected perpendicular and was fully automated to move inward as the record was being played.

Restored and reborn

It’s important to note that these collaborative turntables aren’t new turntables. Instead, the brands have taken 10 original models and updated them, both physically and internally, so they are fit for contemporary use.

On the design side, the brands haven’t messed too much with the Beogram 4000’s original aesthetic — it still looks very much like the vintage turntable — but have added wood and metal elements.

Specifically, they’ve given the special-edition Beogram 4000c turntables, has new aluminum details and a hand-crafted ziricote wooded frame. Each turntable is individually numbered and comes in a matching wooden case, too.

A modernized sound

The sound of the special-edition turntables promises to be drastically improved, too, as Bang & Olufsen has refurbished and fully restored all the internal components in its Denmark headquarters.

Like before, it features a fully automatic tangential-tracking tonearm and can play 33⅓ and 45rpm records.

One of the significant differences between these special-edition turntables and the originals is that Bang & Olufsen has given them a new cartridge and added a built-in preamplifier.

Exceedingly rare

Of course, getting your hands on the Bang & Olufsen Beogram 4000c (Saint Laurent Rive Droite Edition) isn’t going to be easy. As previously mentioned, only ten have been made.

… and we haven’t yet mentioned the price.
