It’s been nearly two years since Bang & Olufsen released the third-generation Beosound 2, and the wireless speaker remains a standout because of its stunning conical design — made out of solid aluminum — and excellent 360-degree sound. You can think of it as an elevated (and significantly more expensive) rival to Sonos.

Now, the legendary Danish hi-fi company has revealed a special edition version of its Beosound 2, one that gives the signature wireless speaker a stunning, shimmering new look.

New gradients

The Beosound 2 Gradient Collection is a special-edition version of the wireless speakers that Bang & Olufsen created to show off its new Atelier program. It’s an initiative allowing customers to collaborate with B&O’s master artisans to create custom versions of its products.

For the collection, Bang & Olufsen leveraged its master artisans’ “world-class anodization expertise” to create the Beosound 2 in 10 different gradients where the colors blend (or transition) flawlessly into one another.

According to the brand, the different color gradients are inspired by “emotions shaped through sound.” But to me, they just look damn cool.

Familiar sound (and streaming)

Despite the new look, each Beosound 2 in the Gradient Collection has the same speaker capabilities. It’s a powered wireless speaker with four individually amplified drivers — a tweeter, a woofer and two midrange — that can play true 360-degree audio.

The wireless speaker has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi streaming capabilities, including support for AirPlay, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect and Google Cast. It also supports line-in via USB-C, similar to the latest Sonos speakers, so you can physically connect it to a turntable or hi-fi system.

Another neat thing about the Beosound 2 is that its control panel and volume wheel are on top of the speaker. And, thanks to a built-in proximity sensor, it automatically illuminates when it detects your hand is near.

Price and availability

For the collection, Bang & Olufsen is making the Beosound 2 Gradient in 10 different finishes, but only 10 of each. There will be 100 special-edition wireless speakers in total, a number picked to celebrate the company’s 100-year history. (Bang & Olufsen was founded in 1925.)

If you want one of these Beosound 2 Gradient speakers, it’s going to cost extra. While B&O sells the Beosound 2 for $3,500 — yes, they’re that expensive — each Beosound 2 Gradient speaker will cost $5,700. So start saving up now.

You’ll be able to order them from the company’s website starting next month, in March 2025.
