Just last month, Audioengine gave its popular desktop speakers, the A2+, their first significant update in years.
Specifically, the Texas-based audio company upgraded them with an improved DAC and support for 24-bit audio (an improvement from its 2019-released predecessor’s 16-bit audio).
Additionally, it added a USB-C input on the back of the primary speaker (in addition to a 3.5mm jack), making it easier to connect the speakers to today’s laptops and desktops.
Now, Audioengine has upgraded its compact powered speaker speaker again. While not as significant of an upgrade, it definitely is more stylish.

Color of the Year
Audioengine’s A2+ still look basically identical to the original A2 powered speakers that were released in 2007. When the company added Bluetooth streaming capabilities with its 2019-released models, they looked essentially identical again.
One thing that has separated the appearance of these speakers has been their colors. Audioengine has traditionally released them in three finishes — black, white or red — but more recently has introduced a “Color of the Year” initiative where it releases a unique limited-edition colorway for one of its speakers.
