Audio-Technica’s latest noise-canceling headphones, the ATH-S300BT, have two major selling points. First, they promise a staggering 90 hours of battery life on a single charge. And second, they cost just $99.
The 90-hour battery life is, well, pretty damn incredible. These days, most wireless headphones promise between 30 and 40 hours of playtime on a single charge, while Beat’s recently released Solo 4 wireless headphones can get up to 50 hours. This means the Audio-Technica ATH-S300BT promise more than double — sometimes triple — the juice of other wireless headphones.
Of course, there’s a catch. The 90-hour battery life only applies to the ATH-S300BT when its active noise-cancellation is turned off. When ANC is turned on, the battery life drops to “up to 60 hours,” which, granted, is still very impressive.
The good news is that ATH-S300BT support fast charging. In the rare event that battery life does get low, a quick three-minute charge will the headphones an additional 2.5 hours (again, with ANC turned off).
Then there’s the $99 price. The Audio-Technica ATH-S300BT are among the most affordable noise-cancellation headphones out there. So don’t expect their noise-canceling skills or sound quality to get anywhere near the levels of today’s flagship noise-canceling headphones like Apple’s AirPods Max, the Sony WH-1000XM5, or the new Sonos Ace. Remember, they’re affordable for a reason.
The Audio-Technica ATH-S300BT do have some other features that can be classified as “premium,” however. In addition to fast charging, they support Bluetooth multi-point, so you can wirelessly connect to two devices at the same time. And they come with a 3.5mm cable so you can use them as traditional wired headphones.
You can buy the Audio-Technica ATH-S300BT right now from the company’s website. They’re available in two finishes: black or beige.
