Since released in 2022, the Audio Pro A28 have been among the Swedish hi-fi maker’s most popular wireless speakers.

The bookshelf-sized active speaker system is both extremely versatile and powerful. And at $600, they’re one of the more affordable active speaker systems out there.

To date, Audio Pro has only offered its A28 speaker system in two finishes, black or white, but now it’s introducing a third option, one that takes inspiration from audio gear in the 1960s and 70s.

Old-fashion minimalism

Audio Pro has revealed that it’s introducing its A28 wireless speaker system in a walnut veneer. It’ll retain the minimalist design that the brand is known for, but have a more vintage aesthetic of past audio gear from the 1960s and 70s.

“Our aim is to keep our design as clean as possible, without any frills or embellishments,” said Jens Henriksen, Audio Pro’s CCO. “However, we have recently seen a demand in the market for a surface that highlights the wood structure and its beautiful grain and diverse color scale.”

According to Henriksen, the wooden veneer doesn’t compromise the brand’s minimalist aesthetic but combines nicely with it.

Vintage looks, new-age guts

Each speaker has a two-way design, featuring a one-inch textile dome tweeter and 4.5-inch woofer, and built-in amplification capable of delivering 75 watts per channel.

And while the walnut-veneered outside of Audio Pro’s new A28 definitely looks vintage, inside, they are very much new-age wireless speakers.

They have a variety of both wired and wireless connections. You can stream music to them via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi (via Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect). They also support wireless multi-room audio over AirPlay 2, Google Cast or Audio Pro’s proprietary streaming tech.

Additionally, the speakers have RCA inputs for connecting a music player or turntable (with a built-in preamp). There’s also an HDMI-ARC input to use them as TV speakers (effectively a soundbar alternative).

Price and availability

For those interested in Audio Pro’s new-look A28, be prepared to pay a little extra. While the standard black or white A28 wireless speaker system is priced at $600, the walnut veneer system is going to cost $50 extra.

According to the brand, the walnut veneer Audio Pro A28 speaker system will be available “at the end of February.”
