California-native Chris Burkard started shooting photos when he was 18. Nearly a decade later he’s one of the most well-respected photographers in surfing, with three books under his belt and a gig as Senior Staff Photographer for Surfer Magazine. His latest project, Distant Shores ($40), is a 180-page hardcover with photos from diverse locations including Alaska, Chile, Iceland, India, Japan and Norway. These photos, which Burkard shared with GP, document his adventures traveling across the world as he captured photos of surfers and the natural world around them. It belongs on your coffee table. (And you belong on a plane somewhere remote.)
