2018 Mazda MX-5
When Mazda came out with the latest generation MX-5, it was almost perfect. At 155 horsepower, the featherweight roadster handles itself elegantly on tight twisty roads, but runs out of steam on faster roads and the highway, when it’s near its top end. For 2018, Mazda addressed this flaw and bumped the power up to 187hp. Now the Miata is one of the most complete sports cars on the market — it’s expertly balanced in corners and for the price, its performance is difficult to beat.

Porsche 718 Cayman/Boxster
The Porsche Cayman — and its convertible counterpart, the Boxster — features standard aesthetic and engineering details that further increase power and torque compared to lower-versions. The car is incredibly smooth for how fast it can get. The Cayman S has a top speed of 180 miles per hour and does 0-60 in 4.0 seconds. Weber Smokey Joe Charcoal Grill
Weber’s dirt cheap 14.5-inch charcoal grill has earned its spot in the pantheon of cookware. If you haven’t cooked on or eaten from a Smokey Joe, you have been robbed of something nearly and dearly American. It’s coated in a porcelain enamel, it’s sturdy on three legs, it’s less than 10 pounds and has two vents for airflow control (open for ripping hot, closed for slower cooks). It has enough cook space for three big steaks or six to seven burgers, and the thing is $40. That’s retail! It’s a dumb decision to sell something this good this cheap, and it’s even dumber not to pick one up for your backyard.
Bonus: Pickup cast-iron grill grates to take it to the next level. They gather and hold more heat and produce a far greater sear than the nickel grates that come standard.

It is ridiculous to say there is just one, all-encompassing, good-for-everything bourbon. There isn’t. But Buffalo Trace is, to our estimation, as close as it gets. Using the famous Buffalo Trace Distillery Mashbill #1, it’s a low-rye, smooth, reasonably aged, slightly hot on the tongue, well-priced bottle. In recent years it’s become a bit harder to track down, but it’s well worth it.

This is best tailgate smoker for a reasonable amount of money you can buy. That also makes it ideal for the kid-sized homeowner/renter. Though it’s called a grill, it’s really best used as a smoker, but with porcelain-coated cast-iron grates, it can achieve grill marks and char in due time. The Ranger runs off electricity, but it is fueled by wood pellets. This means that’s it’s fairly idiot-proof as well: plug the built-in meat thermometer into what you’re cooking, load the grill with pellets and fire it up. It’s that simple.

Like many Yeti products, what appears run-of-the-mill is actually innovation genius. The Panga has easily removable backpack straps, lash points on all sides and haul handles on either end. Sonos’s first smart speaker works great on its own; it’s sort of like a prettier and better-sounding Echo. It really flexes its speaker muscles as part of a larger Sonos system. The Apple Watch is hands down the best smartwatch for anybody with an iPhone, but that’s been the case for years. The Series 4 differentiates itself with a swath of new fitness and wellness features. It’s also the first Apple Watch in years to have a big hardware redesign in years, making it an easy pick as one of the best 100 products released in 2018. If you’re looking to save a little money, skip the option equipped with cellular data connection. The flexiblity to take calls or stream media without having your phone on hand is something most buyers realistically don’t need.

Sonos Beam
The great thing about any Sonos speaker, other than its sound quality, is that it comes with great software and an intuitive companion app — and the Sonos Beam is no different. You just plug the soundbar in, and then the app walks you through how to correctly connect it to your TV. The same app can even tune the speakers so it’s optimized for your room. If you have an iPhone, you need the Apple AirPods. The second-generation AirPods is an improvement to its debut model in every way. Orient Mako II Dive Watch
There are affordable dive watches, and then there are those with mechanical movements which can often be found for under $150 and yet are truly built to last.
