For years, Shinola has led Detroit’s well-documented revival, and the company just furthered its hometown commitment. The Shinola Hotel, which it calls “Detroit’s living room,” is now open.
Shinola chose five early 20th century buildings in Downtown Detroit to build out its first hotel, a space that features 129 bookable rooms and several food and drink spots. Planned retail outlets include Le Labo, Madewell and a handful of local brands from Detroit.

Gachot Studios and Kraemer Design Group handled the interior design work — a job that included creating 50 unique configurations for close to a dozen room booking options, multiple restaurants and a handful of lounge areas. The lobbies and communal spaces pair muted furniture with bright artwork, while attentive guests will notice nods to local history.

Unsurprisingly, the hotel shows off a bounty of Shinola products, some of which are exclusive to the hotel — the Runwell Desk Clock, a striped alpaca throw blanket and a signature hotel candle, to name a few.
