The Blue Jay ($130) and Dragonfly ($130) drones by Force1 nail the basics of drone flying. Both can take off and land with the touch of a single button. Both can record video and take photos in 720p HD. Both can fly in a first-person view mode, using your smartphone as your eyes. And both can be flown either indoors and outdoors. The main difference between the two is size. The Dragonfly is the larger of the two drones (despite what you might guess); it has a slightly better battery life, but might be easy to fly indoors as the smaller Blue Jay. You’re not going to be blown away by either drones’ range or battery life, admittedly. Nor are the cameras’ resolutions much to brag about. But if you’re looking for a good beginner drone at an affordable price, these are both solid gift ideas.
