In case you haven’t heard, short powder snowboards are having a moment. Every major brand is experimenting with them, thanks to their favorable maneuverability-to-displacement ratio. Up until this fall however, stubby powder boards had stayed out of the backcountry touring market; Burton had tried a few short touring boards, with little success. K2, however, has cracked the code: Following the success of their Cool Bean shape, they split it down the middle and made the best splitboard of the year. The Split Bean seamlessly melds the nimbleness of a short snowboard with the displacement and float of a much longer board. In short: good things really do come in pairs.
