Tudor Black Bay Black 36

In an era when watches under 40mm are considered “tiny,” Tudor’s move to downsize made a big statement.

If you’re disheartened by the current trend of oversized watches, Tudor has your back. While the brand continues to pump out various versions of the standard, modestly sized 41mm Black Bay, the standout at this year’s Baselworld was the drastically downsized Black Bay 36. Tudor’s aim was to evoke the smaller sizes of tool watches from the mid-century; and, while the Black Bay is ostensibly a dive watch (it’s water resistant to 150 meters) its shape calls to mind simple silhouette of the 36mm Rolex Explorer. It’s a reserved design that works with anything from a suit to scuba gear. In an era when watches under 40mm are considered “tiny,” Tudor’s move to downsize made a big statement.
