The digital obsession has done a number on physical print. Too often, we’re perfectly pleased with seeing our best photographic work showcased on the web, Instagram or a dazzling display that costs more than a mid-range sedan. For photographers who still value the tangible nature of a shot that’s printed, Canon has brought out its imagePROGRAF PRO-1000. It’s a 17-inch large-format printer with a dozen individual ink cartridges. Those 12 give this printer a level of accuracy that has typically been found only in massive machines, impractical for home use.
The printer also touts a 50 percent larger print head, edge-to-edge printing capabilities and an increased color gamut of up to 19 percent over the (heralded) PIXMA PRO-1 printer. For those concerned about the transition from their editing tool of choice, Canon’s latest Print Studio Pro includes plug-ins for Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and Canon Digital Photo Professional software that exports files directly to the printer. It’s glorious full color, brought back to the printed page.
