Made from a thick cotton weave, moleskin is pretty much corduroy with the ribbing sheared off. The effect is a durable, soft fabric that, during the mid 20th century, was used by working folk like the steel workers of France, farmers of England or soldiers of West Germany. Like other durable workwear fabrics — denim, canvas, leather — moleskin has come in vogue as a stylish, everyday fabric.
Ledbury has utilized moleskin’s rugged yet luxurious feel to create the Franklin Moleskin pant ($185) as an addition to their new-for-2015 line of pants. The pant is mid rise, slim through the seat and waist and tapered through the knee, and it features a five-pocket design. The moleskin construction is plush to the touch and has a rich look without looking too formal, making the pant perfect for an effortless business-casual look. What’s more, the Franklin is also the perfect medium-weight pant for fall through winter: insulating, yet breathable.
The Franklin Moleskin Pant is available for preorder and comes in Brown and Olive. Between moleskin’s durable construction and Ledbury’s penchant for high-quality items, the new Franklin Moleskin should hold up for a long time, both physically and sartorially.
